Dr. James Versalovic appointed Chief of Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital
Dr. Versalovic received his M.D. with honors at Baylor College of Medicine in 1995 and his Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in 1994. He pursued clinical pathology residency training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, in addition to postdoctoral fellowship training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is board-certified in clinical pathology, molecular diagnostics, and molecular genetic pathology. Since 2001, Dr. Versalovic has served as Director of the Microbiology Laboratories, and, in 2006, he became Director of the Division of Molecular Pathology at Texas Children's Hospital. He also serves as Associate Professor of Pathology, Molecular and Human Genetics, and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine. He is Co-Director of the Medical Scientist (MD/PhD) training program at Baylor, and Co-Director of the Functional Genomics Core of the Texas Medical Center Digestive Diseases Center. Jim is Editor-in-Chief of the Manual of Clinical Microbiology and Editor of Therapeutic Microbiology: Probiotics and Related Strategies. He has also served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics and Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. As a Principal Investigator, his primary research interests include probiotics, medical and molecular microbiology, molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases, the human microbiome, innate immunity, and digestive diseases (especially inflammatory bowel disease). He has received the Lansky Award as a national leader in pathology under the age of 45 from the College of American Pathologists Foundation and the BioGaia Ivan Casas Probiotics Research Award. |
